Daniel James enjoys first United appearance
We caught up with Daniel James after the Welshman's impressive maiden outing in a United shirt in the first half...
Yeah amazing. As soon as you come out here, the show they put on for us was amazing. You see all the fans out here, they’ve come from everywhere, so they were great today, but we put in a great performance today. We showed what we have been working on and we got a result. Q: A lot of hard work on the training ground, but you just want to get out there and play the matches, right? Yeah, we’ve had a great 10 days. In those 10 days we’ve been working on certain things. That’s what we’ve got to bring to the game. I think in the first half we had a few chances that we could have put away, but we showed in the second half that we were clinical. Denis Irwin: Which side do you prefer playing, the left or the right? For me, that left position was always my favourite, but now I like being versatile. I like playing across the front three as long as I’m in that team, so I think it’s important you’ve got to play all three and all of our forward players can play that. Even Anthon today, he played number nine, he showed that he can play there, so it’s good for us all to interlink and I think we swapped a few times, so yeah, it’s good to play all three. Q: Showed his pace in training. A few examples. You had more of the ball on the left, Youngy feeding you in, getting in behind those full backs? Yeah I think so. As soon as I came in I made sure I told the full-backs my strengths and how I like to play. I think Youngy showed that he could go inside and play as that third centre midfield player and he was playing me in quite a lot. That’s important over the next few weeks to get that link up with the full backs, to get the best out of me and the best out of them. Q: Getting familiarity on the pitch will be vital. Yeah definitely. That’s what we want to do. We want to get in behind opposition, not play in front. Obviously the gaffer has been speakng to me about doing that and it’s important for me to do that.
