De Gea: We need to kill these games
"When we are 1-0 up we need to kill the games," says David De Gea in his admirable post-match interview...
Is that a fair point, or two points dropped? "Well, always when you draw or lose at home then it is points that you give away. It is true that the game was well balanced, both teams had good chances, but I think we deserved to win. These are the types of games that we need to win to be in the top four, so we need to improve and bring this winning feeling." There was an important double-save from you, just before we scored... "Yeah, that is why I am here, to help the team in the difficult moments with two good saves. Straight after the saves we got the goal, so that is always very good for us. Like I always say, I wish to train hard and give 100 per cent to help the team." You must have had a good view of Scott's goal? "Yeah, it was a perfect strike, I saw it from behind the goal, it went straight into the top corner. It was a great moment. But we need to learn that in these types of games, when we are 1-0 up we need to kill the games. We need to kill the games and at Old Trafford we need to win." Did that flag going up for Arsenal's goal have an impact? "Well, it is difficult. Of course it is easier when the linesman keeps his flag down for everyone, but we know that VAR is there and if anything happens then the VAR is there to say if it is offside or not. So we have to fight for the ball, to not let them score. It was a big mistake for us, this goal, so we need to keep learning." Did you feel the winner was coming? "Yeah, we should have killed the game before the 1-1, but the team reacted really well when Aubameyang scored and maybe we deserved a second goal."
