Lingard rightly proud of solo goal
Jesse speaks to us about United's 4-2 win, Youngy's brace and his own sensational solo effort...
Jesse, you picked up the ball from your own half, you had a long way to go, what do you remember of it? "Yeah, I just remember picking it up and I said there’s a lot of space on this pitch and there was nothing else on at the time so I felt I had to be direct and go for goal." You created so many chances for an away team; it doesn’t really tell a story 4-2 does it? "Yeah, we should have scored more, but that’s football, you miss some and you score some but we’re happy we got the three points away." You were so fluid going forward on the counter attack, was that the plan today? "Yeah, I thought the players we’ve got in the team, we can swap positions, we can be fluid up top knowing that we’ve got a stable defence behind us that let u splay and let us be free and that’s what the players like." And a great return to Watford for Ashley today "Yeah, he doesn’t score many goals but he got two great goals today." Is he the new free kick taker, I can’t ever remember him taking a free kick for United, you’re not going to ever get the ball off him now are you? "No, he took responsibility and practices them on the training pitch and he gave it a go tonight and got two great goals." What was it like when it got to 3-2, though? Because suddenly with 7 minutes to go we thought what has happened! "Yeah, obviously a lot of the fans were up then and we had to regain our composure and calm down on the ball, I think there was about 7 minutes to go so it’s always difficult, but the fourth goal settled us down." Did you feel it was a must win, when you look at the situation at the top of the league, do you think you just have to keep winning? "Yeah, I think our confidence is up now and we’ve got to go to every game with that winning mentality and as long as players are performing on the day I’m sure we can win."
