Mourinho: We were solid
Jose reflects on a business-like performance against Benfica after United made it three wins from three in Group A.
Interviewer: Jose, what are your thoughts on the performance and more importantly the result tonight? Jose Mourinho: Solid performance. It's not the match where I have one more white hair, because everything was calm, was under control. We felt since the beginning that we couldn’t lose the match, that a point would be a positive result for us. They went from top to bottom; we went the opposite way during the match. They lost intensity, they lost pressure, they lost control, and we were totally in control from minute 20 until the end of the game. Solid performance, not magic, but a solid performance, nine points and almost there. Interviewer: Almost there, you're spot on. How important is is to build on this and go and win the group now? Jose Mourinho: Yes, now we have to try to win the group. I think Basel has six points, we have nine. We have to go to Basel so I don't know, maybe, we have to discuss the first and second positions in Basel. Or not, depending on other results. Basel has to come here. I don't know, let's see. Interviewer: I know you have a lot of affection for clubs in Portugal, including Benfica where you spent some time. Do you have some sympathy for the way the goal went in for the young keeper Svilar? Jose Mourinho: No, I told already to the Portuguese press, I think only top keepers concede this goal because bad keepers, they stay on the line. Bad keepers they don't come out for crosses, bad keepers they don't try to analyse the game, bad keepers they don't use the space to give cover like he did in the first half a few times. So I knew, I knew before this match, this keeper is phenomenal. He is phenomenal with 18 years old. He's going to be an amazing goalkeeper and I know that Portuguese people is good people. They are not going to be against him, they are going to be supportive and this kid has a great future. It's a pity he's not Portuguese. Interviewer: Speaking of kids with great futures, Marcus scored the goal and then went off injured. Have you got any news on Marcus Rashford? Jose Mourinho: I thought it was cramp. I asked him and he told me, 'No, I felt something in the knee.' Hopefully not a big one. But Scott McTominay, first match in the Champions League for Manchester United. I think it was a nice moment for, not just the kid, but I think for every kid at the club. Interviewer: Yes, it was a very proud moment for him. Just finally, you're on to Huddersfield next - another tough away game in the Premier League. Are you going to get any players back for that? What's the situation? Jose Mourinho: Honestly, some of them I don't know. I don’t know about Paul, I don’t know about Fellaini. I don't know when they come, when they don't come, I have no idea. Eric Bailly, I feel it will be difficult. Jones, I think possible. He was on the bench because he felt if we needed him, a little bit he could do so hopefully Jones will have no problem to play on Saturday.
