Mata wants to top the group
"We want to win the two remaining games and top the group," states Juan Mata in our interview...
Q: I don’t think we could have qualified any quicker than that with two games to spare. Is it a case of job done? JM: First one yes, which is qualify. Second one, top of the group, not yet. We want to win the two remaining games then I think we’ll be first. Today was good, especially in the first half I think we played very good football. I enjoyed, we scored two goals we could have scored even more. So I think it was a good night and fans hopefully enjoyed it. Q: You seemed to relax and enjoy it tonight, there was some good link-up from the front players? JM: It’s easier when you score early or when you score one, two, three goals in the first half. You play more confident, you have more spaces. You don’t feel like you get tired when you’re winning. You can run and run and pass and move and wanting to score again. Today in the first half we enjoy a lot. I personally enjoy it playing with Anthony, Marcus, these kind of players. Today was a very positive night which we’ll try to replicate a performance like that at the weekend against Brighton. Q: Goals have been an issue this season, how important was it that all three attackers scored today? JM: It’s important for them, for their confidence, for their numbers. We could have scored even more, I think we had chances to score five, six goals but 3-0 is a very good result. The more players that score, the better for the team. Q: Anthony – that was a fantastic goal wasn’t it? JM: I was asking for the ball the whole play, but he made the right decision by himself. Great goal, great player. I enjoy playing with him a lot. He gives you the ball, he goes in space. Top player and he hits top form, he’s very important for us. Q: Rashford scored a great goal at Chelsea with his right. This time he blasted one in with his left! JM: Yes, good lay-off from Ash and fantastic finish. It’s very important for him, for Anto, for Mason, for Daniel when he plays that they're all scoring goals. From the midfield ee try to help with assists and creating chances and that’s what we did today. Q: Busy spell of games coming up how important is it that we’ve got two games in this competition where the pressure is slightly off? JM: It was very important to get qualification sorted, because December is a very busy month. We have a long travel against Astana so it was very important today to do what we did and job done, but we still want to be first in the group.
