Shaw: This point could be important
Luke says the squad are disappointed we didn't win at Anfield, but was encouraged by our performance...
Luke, a point here is never a bad result, but I sense there’s almost a bit of disappointment from the lads? “I think, looking back, we didn’t start well at all and we were going to suffer, and we did, but we stuck in and defended well. I feel like towards the end we had the better chances and two chances that on another day we could score. Ok, that happens in football, but a point is better than nothing. Especially, a point here. You can look in a few weeks that it’s a very good point. It perhaps shows the progression over the last year since we were last here 12 months ago. You’ve drawn and you seem to be not that happy… “No, I’ll be honest, the dressing room is very flat. It’s not what we wanted. Before the game we came here to win, we didn’t come here to try and get a point; we came here to win. We felt so confident with the way that recent results have been going for us. It wasn’t meant to be, but we pushed towards the end, but a point is better than none.” At least you stay top and keep them at arm’s length… “Yeah, we need to try and not focus too much on the table for now. We need to ignore the results that are going on around us and try and just focus on ourselves and try and win very game we can. Fulham is a massive game on Wednesday and it’s not going to be easy, so we need to get ourselves up for that again.” Do you feel that you’re playing some of your best stuff at the moment for United? “I feel really good, obviously big credit to Ole [Gunnar Solskjaer] for that, for believing in me and pushing me. Alex [Telles] as well, we have a great relationship and he pushes me each day in training. We get on really well. It’s nice to have that type of competition, but we push each other to get the best from ourselves. When he plays, I want the best for him, and it’s the same the other way round. It’s a positive way for both of us to look at it and push each other.” It’s not easy looking after [Mohamed] Salah or [Sadio] Mane - did you feel today that you were basically in control? I don’t know, but that is why you come to clubs like this: to play against the best players in massive matches. You always look forward to ones like this because they are going to test you. They are the best in their positions, both of them. They are very dangerous, but I think, not just me, we all defended really well today. We need to keep on doing that. A calendar year unbeaten away form home, that’s some achievement? Of course. It’s nice to hold that record, but we need to push that record on at home. We need to be better at home. Looking at our away form is great, but when you look at our home form, it needs to improve. We need to keep pushing. Hopefully, we can go again on Tuesday and get three points at Fulham.
