Rashford reacts to win at Burnley
Marcus Rashford speaks to MUTV after setting the seal on Saturday's successful trip to Turf Moor...
Marcus, I suppose you will have enjoyed this visit to Turf Moor a bit more than last year’s. “Yeah, it’s always a tough game when we come here. They are a team that have a set identity and they stick to it and they always cause us problems, but today I thought their centre halves especially defended the balls into the box brilliantly. We were winning fouls and we probably could have been a bit more clinical on the break, but sometimes it didn’t come off and we have to fight through games like we did today, so it would have done a lot for us, that.” This isn’t the easiest place to come to, is it? “No it’s difficult. It’s probably one of the toughest places to go away from home in the league, so credit to the lads, the staff. It’s been difficult with two games in three games. Physically it’s tough, mentally we can always be in the right mindset for the game, but sometimes physically the body can let you down and today everyone was running until the 95th minute, so to get the three points after doing all that work is a nice feeling.” The front three are so dangerous on the counterattack. Anthony is now into double figures. When he’s going through, you’re just expecting him to score at the moment. “He’s brilliant when he’s 1v1 with the keeper. I think we all know that, so it’s down to us to give him more of them opportunities. As a no 9 you thrive off those opportunities and we know that when he is in front of goal, when he’s calm and confident like he is right now it’s only going one way, so we just need to keep feeding him, let him keep scoring goals, keep the confidence high and we should be all right going forward.” Dan was kicked from pillar to post in the game, but he kept going for the 90 minutes and he set you up late on. “Yeah, when we speak about character that’s character, for me. He’s getting knocked down every time he gets the ball and for 95 minutes he got up, continued running at them, making passes and he’s been a threat for us every time he’s been on the pitch. It takes a lot of character to do what he does and for him to do that on a regular basis is class for us. We want everyone to be confident going into each game. It’s not always going to go your way in the games, but as long as one of us is scoring, someone is assisting, helping the team, we come off the pitch happy with three points, and we definitely did that today. And your finish. Is that one from the training ground? “I still don’t know how that went in, but we will take it. For me it’s just about being in the right positions. I know sometimes I’m going to miss, sometimes I’ll score, but as long as I’m consistently in the right positions I will get goals. You’re up to 16 goals yourself going into the new year. You must be confident going into the new year with back to back wins? “That’s the main thing. We’ve struggled to get back to back wins in the league and I think we’ve done it now, but it’s about keeping that momentum, keep going forward and get used to winning. We’re not going to win pretty every game, it’s impossible in this league, so we’re going to have to grind some results out and today was one of them games. We take the three points and we move on and keep trying to improve.”
