Greenwood: I gave Bruno the shout!
Double goalscorer Greenwood reflects on a job well done, including what went on in the build-up to his first strike...
Mason, they made it hard, but we got there in the end… “Yeah we got there in the end. Burnley play well here, as we’ve seen in recent years, but we came out on top and got the three points.” It’s been a tough run of fixtures, playing again on Thursday night, but three second-half goals says a lot about the fitness… “The fitness and the mentality, we’ve got it all here. It’s starting to show in the games that we’re finishing games off now and comfortably beat teams.” Let’s talk about your goals – the first one was great skill from Marcus and a great dummy by Bruno – I don’t think he gets an assist for that… “Half an assist for Rashy, half for Bruno. It was a great run from Rashy and Bruno is smart, intelligent. I gave him a shout and he left it for me to shoot.” So you gave him a shout? “Yeah, I gave him a shout and he did a little over and it went in.” Obviously they equalised straight away and then it’s anyone’s game from there? “Yeah it’s anyone’s game when they equalise but we have to keep strong and keep our mentality in the game to come out on top and that’s what we did.” When it’s still 1-1 with 10 minutes remaining were you still hopeful we could get one? “Yeah we knew we could create a few more chances. The game was back and forth, like a basketball game. For the third one we just broke them down and that’s what counts at this club.” For the second one – was it definitely your goal? “Yeah, definitely my goal. I cut inside and shot and we were talking about the keeper’s positioning before the game about his near post. I tried to do that and it deflected and went in.” How do you rate your own form at the moment? “Yeah, I knew my goals would come as I said in past interviews. I kept my mentality and I knew chances would come and I just have to keep focused and be ready on the pitch when the chances come.” No teenager has scored as many goals for United in the Premier League as you. You’ve got the same number, 15, as Wayne – not bad company to be in… “Yeah not bad company to be in, but I want to overtake him, hopefully. The gap to City is eight points and they’re big favourites, but you have to keep going… “Yeah you have to keep going in case they fumble, but we just have to concentrate on our own game and if they mess up, they mess up. If they don’t, they don’t. We just have keep concentrating on our game and we have to try and win every game between now and the end of the season.”
