Solskjaer's verdict on the loss to Astana
Watch as Ole delivers his verdict on the performance, our young debutants and Jesse Lingard's goal...
Not the result we wanted but the bigger picture is six debuts tonight? "Yeah and performance was very good. At times we were excellent and short spells we let them push us back, which cost us in the end. It was a ten-minute spell there second half, you could see they were growing in the game. That’s when you want these boys to, they want to learn from this and maybe some stay down for two minutes and let’s get organised. But we had chances ourselves and some excellent, excellent debuts, I have to say." As a learning experience, you can’t buy something like this, can you? "You’ve got to put them on the pitch before you know if they’re good enough. Full debuts today from Ethan, from Di’Shon and from Dylan, I thought all three of them were excellent." Shame for Di'Shon, there was nothing he could do about that was there? "That’s the only time he put a foot wrong, he didn’t even put a foot wrong, sometimes that happens in football, but I thought he was excellent." Basically you’ve got a shootout at Old Trafford in two weeks’ time to decide who wins the group... "We’re going to look forward to that one of course, but now it’s three games next week. So these boys have learned a lot and given me food for thought and very pleased with many of them." What’s it been like working with them? "The group, you can see they travelled together, played together, it’s a very, very tight knitted group. It’s been excellent training yesterday, lead up to the game travel and everything and I’m just sorry they couldn’t go away from here with the win, because I thought they deserved to win the game." Jesse got 13 a couple of seasons ago. He’s obviously got goals in his locker. How important was it to see him hit the net tonight? "Goalscoring is important for forwards, of course, and Jesse scored a very good goal today. But I thought his performance was top class. He led the team by example: energy, drive, he scored a goal, great in dressing room the whole trip. So he’s done himself proud today, I think."
