Ole: I couldn't have asked for more
The manager praises three things in our post-match interview: his players, the supporters and the referee...
Q: Could you have asked for more in terms of effort and endeavour today? OGS: I don’t think so but we ask for that every game and they’ve shown it a lot of the time. Some games just won’t pan out like this one. I thought tonight: one, the boys were fantastic, aggressive, pressing on the front foot. he fans made it also an energetic game, loads of passion in the crowd and three the referee was really well. He let it become a proper football game with tackles. It’s not one of these tippy tappy, stop the game all the time. It’s not very often we praise the refs but I think he did well tonight. Q: For the first time this season you changed the formation – what was your thinking? OGS: It was three at the back, you know we wanted to get on the front foot and press with Aaron and Ash. With the front three Dan and Marcus and Andreas with loads of energy and we trust the players at the back to deal with anyone in the league. Even though Liverpool have a very good front three I thought this was the game if we gonna create chances we need more bodies up top. More directness, more runs in behind and the goal was fantastic in that respect. Q: You as a striker you’d have loved a cross like that wouldn’t you? OGS: And his movement, Marcus’ movement when the cross came in. Great ball. We’ve been working obviously on, being more, how do you say, the luck will turn. Q: What was the answer though because pundits felt Liverpool would turn up and roll United over, certainly no chance of that today? OGS: There’s never any chance that these boys are going to roll over. We’ve been looking forward to this game. Of course, we’re playing against a good team. A great club as well, of course they’ve got history behind them. These games are always fantastic. The passion. I thought our fans showed they can see why we’re doing what we’re doing and they were unbelievable. Players were great and I’m just sad we didn’t get three points.
