Ole: We have a very big job ahead
"We have a very, very big job ahead of us and we all want to get back to where we belong ," says Solskjaer...
Q: I imagine that was a pretty tough afternoon overall for you? “It’s so disappointing again, but then again the facts and reality is we created chances. Mason was absolutely brilliant, got the crowd going, got the players going, but that’s a 17-year-old making his full debut and he’s the bright light. He settled in very early and just a bit unfortunate that he didn’t get his goal, because his performance deserved it.” Q: Obviously not a nice day for the fans, but when you did the lap at the end they were singing your song. Do you feel their support? “Yeah. Their support has always been with the team and with me for that matter. It’s, as I said in an earlier interview, it’s almost embarrassing walking around that pitch, but the crowd and our supporters are unbelievable and they support us no matter what and they know we have a very, very big job ahead of us and we all want to get back to where we belong which is higher up the table. At the moment, there’s two teams far ahead of us. We’re four or five, six points behind the next positions and we’ve got to claw ourselves closer to the top two and the others.” Q: Realistically how much work needs to be done, particularly over the summer? “When we come in pre-season, 1 July, the boys need a break as well, because they worked extremely hard to give us a chance to challenge for the top four which was nearly impossible around Christmas time. Then we’ve had a bad, bad period now towards the end. They’re good players you know, but they’ve hit a brick wall more or less towards the end and we’ll get them positive again, optimistic again, because when we played Cardiff last time we scored our first two chances, two shots from 30 yards and Ander’s goes in, Marcus’ shot flies in. Today we created an unbelievable amount of chances, we just couldn’t score, and that’s human nature. When you’re not confident, feeling the world’s against you, those margins will go against you.” Q: Does the work pretty much start straight away in terms of planning what’s going to happen, ins and outs and all those sort of things? “Yeah, the club and the staff we will work very hard to plan next season and the players will have to get a rest and come back fresh again.”
