Ole: We deserved to win

Transcript

Which two Reds did Ole reserve praise for after our decent away performance at Anfield?

Transcript

Ole, it says a lot that you got a point here and the lads almost seem a bit disappointed…

“Yeah, I have that feeling as well, and the feeling is quite a good one to have, coming away with only one point. You can’t really smile about it. I felt we deserved to win towards the end, even though we didn’t play as well as we can. We know that. I’m a bit disappointed in the performance as well at times. I thought we grew into the game really. The second half is there to be won.”

There were a couple of key moments late on when you thought: this is it…

“Yeah, two great saves from the keeper. Of course, chances that we could and should have put away. But then, it wasn’t meant to be. We created them - great work down the side by Luke [Shaw], who I thought was excellent all day. I can’t really remember David [De Gea] having to make [a save] - oh, he had that one from Thiago, but apart from that we defended well and kept them away.”

It was interesting the way we were set up with Paul [Pogba] on the right - he’s not been out there for a while. What was the thinking?

“I hope it was justified by his performance, because I thought Paul was excellent. I felt that he could cause them some problems. I wanted Marcus [Rashford] up top because of his pace. We just missed a few moments in both the first half and the second half to play that ball a little bit quicker or with a bit more quality. It was there that we could hurt them a bit because we knew about their problems at centre-back.”

That is a calendar year unbeaten away. You can see the difference from a year ago when we last lost away from home, which was here…

“I think we can see that by what you’re saying: that we’re all disappointed that we don’t win. That’s a big thing. Then this might be a good point if we win on Wednesday. We go away again.”

Still top after coming here - that’s the main thing I suppose?

“Doesn’t really matter where we are now, it matters where we are in May. We move on, carry on. We feel that we’ve developed and that is a good feeling with being disappointed to only get one point away.”
