Ole: We didn't take our chances
The boss felt there were positives, despite the disappointing result at Anfield...
Not the result you wanted, but did the last half an hour give you encouragement going forward? “I think the reaction was really good. Of course in the first 10 minutes of the second half they pushed us back, sometimes that happens against good teams, but we had a keeper that played well, or fantastic. We had defender that did their job and we got back into the game. We created chances, big chances, we created pressure, we created transitions. Then the final ball or the final finish or the final cross wasn’t good enough. The last half an hour was really good." I suppose you were disappointed with the way the first goal was conceded. From a set piece. “Every time you concede from a set piece you’re disappointed. We gave him too much space, the bloc was there and we didn’t get up against him, so I’m disappointed with that." A couple of big chances, one for Anthony, and he's such a good finisher he'll be disappointed with that. “The way we created chances in the second half, they had the chance just before half time as well with Andy, a great diagonal pass, Aaron’s back-post, square pass to Andy, that’s a great chance. Loads of opportunities when we attacked quickly. We got at them, drove at them. They are a direct team, they are very direct, they play many long balls, put you under pressure. If you win the first one normally they go and win the second ball, but I thought we won so many of them. Fred and Nemanja were very good in there. We released players, we got at them, but the last pass, the last finish didn’t happen. Towards the end, the last 10 or 15, I thought we’d really put the pressure on them, but we weren’t wide enough. We didn’t create overloads down the sides to get the quality cross in." We picked out Fred in commentary. He's had criticism, but now he's superb in the heart of midfield. “Top, top performer. All the supporters can see now why we believe in him. He covers every blade of grass on the pitch, wins challenges. Of course he is more confident on the ball. I’m very pleased with Fred. Of course I felt David had to make two or three saves today too, and he made them." How tricky is it for you? You've got three big players missing. How tricky is it when the games keep coming? “You can’t use that as an excuse, but it is a bit of an explanation of course. Three of our top players are missing. Maybe you could say with a bit of quality there we could get a point or maybe even challenge to win the game. We’ll keep on working. The players are giving absolutely everything they’ve got. I’m very pleased with the attitude and character in the team."
