Solskjaer: We deserved more than a point
Ole admits the team was "too slow" in the first half, but is adamant the whole performance deserved a victory...
Q: Ole, the unbeaten run continues, but are you leaving here frustrated that we didn’t get all three in the end? “I’m disappointed, to be fair. I think the performance deserves more than one point. I can’t remember them threatening us in the second half. Not too much in the first half either. They get a goal out of more or less nothing and they have a good chance after. David makes a good save from Son’s header, but apart from that it was only a matter of time before we scored. We need to be more clinical, but then again if you look back to last season when we played Tottenham and won 1-0, you came off delighted because we got three points but the performance wasn’t close to this one. This was a dominant performance and I think we showed in the second half that we can play against teams that defend deep and create chances.” Q: I wondered what your message was at half time, because it really was total domination in the second half. “You can both ways really at half time after that performance in the first half, because it was too slow and it seemed like they had some doubt in their heads about fitness, about quality, getting going again, playing in this atmosphere, but trust yourselves. Play quicker, one touch less, a split-second less on the ball, harder passes, harder runs, harder pressing and just trust yourselves and that was the message.” Q: Were you getting worried by 80 minutes, because everything was being saved or blocked and were you beginning to think it was one of those nights? “Of course you’re prepared for that but I thought with the players we had on the pitch there’s always a chance for us to create chances again. Lloris had a couple of fantastic saves. One from Anthony, one from Marcus in the first half, so he made a difference for them but luckily we got one which we feel a bit disappointed we didn’t get three points.” Q: Paul with that extra bit of penalty drew the penalty and that’s obviously what he’s got in his locker isn’t it? “It’s great to have him back on the pitch. Of course you miss a player like Paul’s quality. Both as a human being in and around the dressing room, but on the pitch as well, so it’s been great having him back and he showed some top class touches, some passes and some skills today.” Q: We thought it was going to be the most dramatic of conclusions as well with another penalty, but sadly VAR intervened. “It was close. I’ve not seen it, but I don’t think it was a foul. I thought maybe it was a foul against Marcus before. I think he pulled Aurier back, so I wasn’t really confident we were going to get the penalty anyway.” Q: Missed the fans “Yes of course. Towards the end they might have spurred you on, because I think the Tottenham players were happy hanging on. I felt that we were closer to the win.”
