Ole's views on pre-season
Ole Gunnar Solskjaer cannot wait to step up preparations for the 2019/20 campaign...
How important is the Kristiansund game in terms of preparation as it’s the first one back in Europe after the tour? The last preparation and we need to get ready for the league. We want to get off to a good start, of course. We’ll have had a long holiday and do not have too many players away on internationals so we should hit the ground running, straight off. You don’t win the league in the first 8-10 games but you can give yourselves a chance to challenge and give yourselves some momentum. Will you have a chance to get a proper break? Yeah, you know, you never get a break from football. You think about it. Even if I’m back home now in Norway, I’m watching games and analysing games back from towards the end of the season. What went wrong and what went well. That’s just me. It gives me energy, working with football and thinking how to improve players and the team and how we should get ready. It’s just a lifestyle and what we do. I do get a break from the other stuff, though, being here and my shoulders just drop down. So can you switch off from it all? I don’t’ want to switch off completely. If you do, I can switch off the phone once in a while, but you don’t switch off the brain. Maybe there will be a day or two without thinking about it but, of course, we’ve got a big job preparing for next season with player logistics and training logistics. Are you happy with the pre-season training schedule and the games? It’s shaping up. Of course, we’re going to sit back and go through all the plans with the physical coaches and with the coaches and we’ll be ready when 1 July comes. There are not going to be any excuses. Are you already looking forward to 1 July? Of course, I’ve only been here five months but you get more energy off working and get more energy sometimes, sadly but it’s true, when it goes against you. You get more energy because you’re determined to come back a better team and a better coach to help the players improve and be even better. Yeah it’s nice, winning, don’t get me wrong. But when you get a season like we’ve had, I think everyone is sitting back because they’re proud players and proud coaches because we want to show what we can do. Is it a case of just forgetting last season? You can’t forget. You have to learn from your mistakes as well. We want to learn more from what we did right.
