Ole reacts as Reds go third

Transcript

United picked up a point in our final home league game of 2019/20 to move into the top four – hear the boss’s thoughts…

Transcript

Ole, we're into the top four going into the final game. I guess we would've taken that anyway, back in January and February?

"Yeah and at half time. We spoke about it at half time, to win the second half to get a result. You know, if you win 1-0 or 2-0 today, it doesn't make a difference to a draw, because then we've moved up to third. You can't expect going into games against teams in the form that West Ham are and how organised they are, how difficult they are to play against and score three, four or five goals. Three nil would've given us a better point going into next game, 5-0 of course, but you just don't do that in the Premier League."

And it's obviously a jolt to concede like that, right on half time?

"Yeah. They reacted well at half time. We need to go out in the second half and win it. It's another step forward for them and another time that we've come back. Bournemouth took the lead, Southampton took the lead, and now, so we're learning."

Another piece of history for Mason. That's 17 goals. No teenager has ever scored more in a season for United. We're talking about Best and Rooney and players like that, great company to be in.

"Yeah and there's more games for him. He'll score more and hopefully we'll have five more games and I'm sure that if he plays five games he'll score more. You expect it from him, when he's in and around the box you expect him to hit the target. One was blocked today by the defender, Ogbonna I think it was, and the other one he scores with, so we just have to keep teeing him up and giving him opportunities."

It's going to be some afternoon isn't it on Sunday at Leicester?

"Yeah, brilliant, so hopefully we can go down there positive knowing that we've done so great up until now, get another 24 hours rest compared to this game, so we'll be fine."

And 13 Premier League games unbeaten since February to get to this point. You've worked so hard to get to this point, is the message now: let's see the job through?

"Yeah, the message is just focus on yourself, recovery, preparation, because if you prepare well enough, that's the confidence they all need, going into the game knowing we've done everything we can and just go out and give it a go."
