Solskjaer’s verdict on Norwich win
Watch as the boss gives his view on United’s first Premier League victory of the new year…
OGS: We're at home, we're winning 1-0. You could easily be disappointed towards the end of the first half that we don't go in two or three, but the way they chased about the pitch like a hunt of chasing dogs I'm really, really proud of. Q: Was that the game plan, cos there seemed to be a lot of energy and interchanging of positions. Were you trying to get them to really press? OGS: Because we know that at home if you don't go and press a team like Norwich, they can play. They have players there that can play. Then again if you make them make decisions under pressure we can pounce on them and we are on the front foot. Today was about, as you said, energy. I thought Andreas started off really, really well for us. Anthony with his chasing, Juan's quality showed, so I'm really pleased with the whole performance. Q: We've got to mention Marcus. Nineteen goals now, 200th appearance and you were able to give him a rest towards the end as well. OGS: Yeah, he's been absolutely sensational all season. The work rate, attitude and the goals he scored today very pleased. The first one, a good finish. The second one, very calm, composed on his penalty. Remember, we missed two against these last game, and he was practising penalties yesterday, so I was quite confident. Q: It's almost becoming quite a trademark from Mason Greenwood. Left foot from 20 yards out, putting it into the bottom corner. When he pulls that left back you kind of expect it. OGS: Yeah, you're not surprised if it hits the target. We've just got to keep our feet grounded with him, and he will have to keep his feet grounded, but he is exceptional in front of goal. He is a top top talent and a finisher of the best quality. Q: I suppose the clean sheet may not be the biggest story of the day, but how important was it for you? OGS: Massive. Absolutely massive, and the save that David makes just before half time is such a big one, both for him, us and the match, because if they had come in here 1-1 at half time it would have been a different game. So, very pleased. David was so confident and assured today. Q: How important was it to get the smiles back on the faces of the players and the fans? Everyone was really on a high. OGS: We've got to keep together, we've got to stick together. We can't stop believing because if you lose a game against a very good team. City are a very good team and they played the best possible they could, they picked their best players in the Carabao Cup against us. That should tell us that we've come quite a long way. We played quite a young team ourselves, so you can't go really high when you do win, you can't really go underground if you don't do well. I think it's important that people keep that perspective. Yeah, they came here with the best they've got, they rested players to get ready for that game. Fair play. Q: Was it just a precaution with Luke at the start? OGS: Yeah, he didn't feel right. He's been ill, so for me fine, go home. Hopefully he'll be ready for Wednesday.
