Solskjaer's press conference in full
See what Ole had to say in his media briefing after the win at Chelsea...
Q: Ole, did that pretty much go as you planned it? OGS: Well, when you win 2-0 here you’re delighted. I’d take that any day of the week, but, then again, I didn’t think we played particularly well, especially with the ball. In the first half we were cumbersome and slow, and our passing wasn’t great. We got the first goal and then we hung in there. Q: Is that the type of goal you want Anthony Martial to score? OGS: Yeah, and with Aaron, that cross - he provided a similar one to Rashy when he scored against Newcastle. He does have that, and we’ve been working on it. But, with Anto, it’s great for him to score goals like this. Normally, if you have a centre forward who can beat centre-backs in the air like this, you can start crossing the ball. He’s proven it now, so he can stick his head on more of them. Q: That’s the first Premier League goal you’ve scored from a corner since September 2018… OGS: You’ve got your facts totally wrong. I’ve read that as well, but that’s totally wrong. I’m delighted with the goal, of course. Q: How is it to get the ‘X factor’ with Bruno? OGS: He’s a top player. He’s a conductor, he wants to get on the ball and he gives us many options on the ball. His dead-ball delivery is top class and he’s one of the better ones I’ve seen. He was unfortunate that he didn’t score with his free-kick at the near post, and they had one as well. Harry, we know that if he gets a run on the ball he is dangerous and, finally, he got that goal. Q: Ole, how do you explain these results against the big teams? OGS: Well, it’s up to me to explain them, but when we don’t win you can explain it. We’ve got a good team, with good quality. We’ve come here and defended really well. Four clean sheets on the bounce, of course, and that’s a great foundation to work from. I think we’ve found a good way of playing against some of the teams, and I think it worked today as well. Q: Mino Riola has had a lot to say tonight, have you got any response? OGS: No. No comment. People can say whatever they want in the world today on social media and it makes headlines. I don’t really need to say anything. Inaudible question OGS: I didn’t seem to bother any of our players, so I’m not going to comment on that, no. Inaudible question OGS: Yeah, of course. We want to be in the Champions League next season and we’ve given ourselves a chance with this result. We know we need to improve on creating chances and scoring goals. Today, we show again with another clean sheet, that’s a foundation to build on. We’re going to work hard and we’ve got to recover because we have a game on Thursday. Thanks for the help with all the recover we get for Europe. Q: It must have been great to have Eric Bailly back. Does he give you a selection dilemma? OGS: He was absolutely fantastic. It’s not a bad conundrum because Eric’s a top defender and it’s his first game since we played Chelsea last year in the league, in April. He’s a top defender and his block on Kovacic was out-of-this-world defending. He’s quick, he’s strong and is as brave as lion. It’s great to have him back. Q: Can you elaborate on your concerns about scheduling? OGS: I saw Jose say something about that as well. We don’t really get too much help to prepare for Europe. For me, how we didn’t play on Friday or Saturday, or at least on Sunday, is beyond me. I don’t like to complain, you know that, and we’ve just got to get on with it and do as well as we can. Q: What are your thoughts on the incident with Harry Maguire? OGS: For me, I didn’t think about it for two seconds. I think he was fouled, rolled over and Batshuayi is standing over him and he puts his leg to protect himself. It hurts when you get hit there, but I think he’s alright. Q: What did you make of Ighalo’s debut? OGS: I’m pleased he made his debut. He created a good chance but unfortunately he didn’t score. I’m sure he’ll get his goals. Question on Manchester City’s ban from Europe OGS: I don’t know, I haven’t spoke to the boys about it. For us, it’s just about improving as a team, getting as many points as possible and, hopefully, getting fourth place.
