United 2 Spurs 1: Ole's press conference
TranscriptWatch what the boss had to say in his post-match media briefing, following our excellent win over Tottenham...
Big game team? Many diff reasons for how our game goes but we've had players enjoying themselves tonight, it's players taking people on, sometimes it feels like maybe we haven't been good enough breaking teams down, 70 75% poss, today was about 50-50, had most of ball FH, some of the build up play and penetration we showed was excellent. Kick on? No better game, is there than the next one and fantastic MC team to play against, the boys will be up for that one. Rashford? The boy's 22 and today played like he was in back yard of the garden or playground with mates, sometimes maybe expectations and pressure expectwe want them to enjoy thesmelves but facing players taking them on McT? You can almost say he is undroppable at the moment.I wasn't gonna try to push him through for this game. The physical presence he gives us, the leadership he gives us in midfield, also releases Fred, I thought Fred was excellent today and maybe the one chance they had he blocked, First class, good partnership. He trained yesterday and that was just a light session with the reserves, but he's a tough boy, there's no chance he's gonna say no thanks if he felt OK, so it's probably the first time I've really really pushed players that haven't had the foundation but he's so fit anyway. Greenwood? Fantastic, v happy with him, he played his role almost to perfection, could have got his goal, Mason will grow from this had CC, EL, and this is the first big game he's played in and he could have played YC instead on Friday. Rashford again? You can define players by waiting things to happen or making things happen, hhe made it by movement decision making, positive, and great to see, he can go inside, outsdie, v happy with this, how he matures, he plays so many games, can't expect him to be running like this all the time bu tit's natural sometimes he can have this level, top top performance. Rash age? That's the good thing, he's young and will recover for Sat, all the young boys will recover, 24 hours extra recovery, tottenham had the same and happy to have a young team not an old team. McT? The first big game he played was Liv and he was absolutely top class, see a boy doing everything right every single day, prepares properly and they're the boys you wanna have in the team. Joy? Make it simple but I've been brought up here before every game gaffer said express yourselves can see it in a diff way with framework, Jesse and Mason made it harder for CBs, great to see so v pleased. Fred? It's been a lot of work, the boy works hard, creating a relationship with Scott, which is good for us and it's hard to play one game, out for three now he's been consistent, same with Scotty, that gives you confidence. Martial? A little while, how long is a piece of rope? City? I don't know. Not sure. Of course you want to have your first XI, big best players all the time and I've done that once against Chelsea, maybe Wolves, it's a squad game and the subs are so vital but with injuries we've had made it hard to make impact subs but I thought Mason came on did fantastic, Jesse looking to his best again, Ash showed expereince so the ones that haven't played did really well. McTominay impact? So professional, not tainted by any superstar or fame, just wants to become the best footballer he can be and that's the people I want in this club, he would've suited my squad when he played, come through the academy, he's one of ours, one of the locals and knows what Man United means. Lindelof? He's been proving critics wrong, you'll always have critics at MU. Victor is so calm and composed on the ball and that's part of our play, important in build up take risks, maybe avoid the goal, but Victor scored a goal last week and becoming a leader.
