Pogba: We want more and more of this

Transcript

Paul Pogba was delighted with his ‘beautiful’ strike at Fulham, but he’s not resting on his laurels…

Transcript

Paul you’ve scored some great goals for United over the years, but where does that one rank?

It’s a beautiful one, it’s a beautiful one for sure. It’s the best one with my left foot, for sure. I’m really happy that I can score and help the team to win the game. The most important thing is the performance of the team, with a difficult start. It was very hard. I think we had to find a way to get our rhythm and to be dangerous against a good team. Fulham defensively play very well and it’s hard to get some goals.

It’s happened time and time again this season where we go behind and come back and win it. Is there always confidence that we can come back?

We’re always confident. We conceded the goal really early as well. We know we wanted to win, we wanted the three points, so you have to play in the space and be difficult. The reaction we had in the first half after they scored the goal was a good one. Second half we were able to score the goal, so I’m really happy.

Another goal from Cavani – a poacher’s goal. How big an impact do you think he’s had at the club since he joined?

Everybody knows that Edi is a top-class striker and there’s few strikers like this in the world. We have the chance to have one and the hardest goals to score are those goals. We have talented players, Anthony Martial, Rashy, Mason, they can shoot from outside but they don’t have the experience as Edi and they don’t have the same qualities as Edi. I think we complete each other, with the players we have in front and Edi can show his class like he did today. The goals that we need, at the right time, he’s always there at the right moment to help the team to win.

How big are victories like this? 2-1, away from home, horrible night, raining, windy and you go behind. How big are these sort of victories in a title battle?

It’s the Premier League, you’re Manchester United and it’s always difficult to play on this pitch, a small pitch, when it’s not the best and there’s a team that defenders very well, as well. We know we won’t get a goal easily, so we have to fight for it. We did it, we did it well and we got the result we wanted.

Top at the halfway point of the season. I know nobody’s getting carried away, but it’s better than last season, isn’t it?

For sure, it’s better. We’re really happy with what’s happening, but we want this to carry on again. We want it more and more and more. Never enough, we’re still far from the trophy. This is the Premier League, it’s not going to be easy. It’s hard to get there, it’s going to be even harder to stay there. We know we have to keep focused, and keep working, keep playing, keep pushing and believe in ourselves. Not arrogance, but be arrogant in the way that, yes – we’re proud to be there, but we’re not there yet. We didn’t do nothing, you know? We haven’t done nothing yet, so we have to keep working.

The lads were frustrated on Sunday, you seemed to be disappointed with a point at Anfield, but does that point now look better with this victory?

Yeah. You have to forget about Sunday. Sunday is past now. We had the point, we didn’t lose. Today was today. We had to focus and we had to get the points. You have to forget about this game tomorrow and go again. You have to go again. If you win and think you’ve arrived, that’s where we’re going to drop.
