Rashford: I sensed an opportunity
Marcus talks us through the technique behind that sensational free-kick...
Q: Ole, what a great free-kick from Marcus… It’s Cristiano-like, isn’t it? The boy has got nerves of steel, he takes the penalty no problem. Then he steps up and hits the ball like he does, no problem, and wins us the game. Fantastic! Q: It really was was Ronaldo-like, with the dip and the pace on the ball. Is that something he works on? I think he works too much on it to be honest! I’ve always tried to get my strikers scoring the simple tap-ins inside the box. But he always scores great goals Marcus. He practises and today he got his reward. Q: He didn’t let the penalty miss on Sunday put him off, because he scored minutes later. This time, straight away he puts the ball on the spot and takes a perfect spot-kick. You must be delighted? Q: Yeah, he’s got a great mentality and a great character. I told him this morning ‘if we get a penalty, you take it. Just make your mind up where you’re going to put it and hit it as sweet as you like’. Q: Dan got fouled by Alonso. It is difficult when he runs at you, isn’t it? He’s so sharp and quick. When he gets in front of you, you can’t really attempt for the ball. If you do and you’re too slow, it’s a penalty. Q: This has never been a happy hunting ground for us, yet you’ve overseen two victories here. You must be delighted? Yeah, because it’s a hard place to come and let’s make sure we win here when we come back in the league in February. It’s a great night tonight, now let’s just make sure we recover because we’re playing in the Saturday lunch-time kick-off. We need to get everyone working as hard as they can on the recovery. The staff are fantastic and we need to travel home and get ready. Q: You would have taken this a week ago: Away in Belgrade, then away in Norwich and away in Chelsea. Three wins on the bounce… Three away wins in a week when you haven’t won in a while. At least that talk about us not winning away from home is gone. The boys, they’ve been working hard and have never let the goals out of their sight. We know we’ve been close, we’ve been close quite a few times and we just haven’t managed to tip the margins our way. Now they are, and that’s football, sometimes it goes for you, sometimes it goes against you. Tonight we’re happy and we just make sure we try to ride this wave for a bit longer until the international break. Q: Did Marcus have a little knock when he came off? And did Harry have a knock? We’re playing football, it’s not basketball. Some of them are sore, but you should be absolutely down on your knees after a game of football, because it’s worth it when you win a game. They’re quick healers and let’s hope they’re ready for Saturday.
