McTominay: It’ll be super special for the fans
Even a limited number of United supporters in Gdansk will provide a major boost for the players, says Scott…
This will be your first European final, how does that feel? It'll be a pleasure to play in. It's something we've worked hard for. It's not something that's a dream of the team, it's something that we have really, really worked hard for. Every single game in the Europa League has mattered. We've been a few draws and losses shy of the league which has been really disappointing but you have to look at the positives. If we finish the season with a trophy and second, we have to take that onto next season and take it from there. Could winning the Europa League be the start of something? Spiral effect. It's that experience of knowing we can win, building winners within a team, that winning mentality can't just be brought to us afterwards if we win a trophy. It has to be there instilled in the players before that, it has to be us going to the final knowing we're going to win, pushing for that trophy. As I say, for us it's a real opportunity. And for the boss as well, for him to win a first trophy as United manager... It would be super special for him. It'd be so important for us to get that trophy for Ole, to show all of the hard work that him and the coaches have done over the course of the year, all the hours that people don't see, all the training sessions, everything the players do and everybody in the building from the staff to players to fans, it would be an incredible day. Villarreal are in good form... It'll be a big challenge, we know that already. We know it's going to be a tough challenge. We're not naïve to the fact that they are a really good team but we're going there to win, we're going there to put in a performance in as winners and come out with the trophy. There will be fans there, a couple of thousand from each club. Does that make a difference as well? You want people there, yeah. If not a full stadium, then we definitely want people there. It'll be super special, especially for the fans. It's been a tough year for everyone and the players know that. It'll be a really nice feeling. Do you like the pressure games, the one leg finals where it's all on the line? That's part and parcel of football isn't it? If you want to play for Man United you're going to have to play in more games like that so you best get used to them, so yeah I'm excited.
