Solskjaer's verdict on a five-star showing
Ole discusses a "birthday present from the boys", Bruno's performance, Ighalo's first goal and Fred's late double...
Was that basically the perfect night? "It was a perfect present from the boys. I have to say, the quality in our play, the enthusiams, the excitement, the smiles, the confidence, everything about that performance gives me reasons to believe we can kick on now." A wonderful team performance, but Bruno Fernandes seems to have settled so quickly... "Yeah he has settled in really well with the boys and the football we play. He has been an important piece in every game he has played and no wonder, because he is a very good footballer." Was the red card in the first half a decisive moment? "I don't know what the boy was thinking about when he was stopping that goal. But, when you score, they have to score two to beat us with 10 men, so we knew we were going to create chances. That is when the tie was over." What a lovely moment for Odion Ighalo as well... "It was very special. Man United has been such a big part of his football club without him ever being here. Now he has signed for us after being a Man United support all of his life and to score at Old Trafford is a big moment. I know, for a striker, how important that is. He has got the fans on his side, his team-mates on his side, and we hope for more." Did Scott show what we have missed in the last couple of months? "Scotty has been very good this season and he has been missed while he has been away. Then again, Nemanja and Fred have been fanfastic. Fred, tonight, scored two goals and I didn't think I was going to be alive when Fred scored! He's had so many attempts. He gets into good positions and he has just been unlucky not to score goals before. Now he has got two tonight and hopefully he can kick on." If Fred can add goals to his game, you couldn't ask for much more from him... "With Anthony and Marcus and Mason, three forwards scoring goals, if you can spread the goals throughout the team then that is fantastic." Finally, looking to the draw, it's been about a fortnight since we last played Wolves... "I wouldn't be surprised! But we will take whoever we meet. It is going to be a difficult tournament with many games, and many good teams to beat if you want to go the whole way, but that is what we want to do."
