Ole discusses Smalling, outgoings and Ibra
The boss began his press conference by discussing Chris Smalling, Matteo Darmian, Marcos Rojo and Zlatan Ibrahimovic...
The latest on Smalling to Roma “It’s just come up the last couple of days, this opportunity for Chris and we’ve sat down yesterday and discussed it. At the moment we have six fit centre-backs and I couldn’t promise Chris regular football and he’s on the plane over now. I think he’ll enjoy the experience over there. It’s a good club, a big league. There aren’t many English players who have had the chance to play in Italy and I’m sure he’ll come back stronger and better for it.” Transfer updates on Darmian and Rojo “I can see maybe Matteo [leaving] - there has been some interest in Matteo over in Italy. Marcos, he’s staying, definitely. So, we’ve got a squad now that is less in numbers but still big enough and strong enough to have cover in all positions.” My thoughts on an Ibrahimovic return “If he was 28, not 38 next month it would be a big difference. But Zlatan has had a great time here and of course he is still doing well and was unfortunate he got his injury when he got it here. So, who knows? He knows my number. He never rented my house but he was looking at it, and we can speak our native language. If he’s serious I’ll always speak to Zlatan.” Expanding on his answer, Ole said: “I don’t think that will happen. I think he’s had his time at the club and he’s had a fantastic career. I wouldn’t expect him to be serious either when he says that.”
