Praise for Rashford, McTominay and Fred
The manager heaped praise on Marcus Rashford, Scott McTominay and Fred during his latest media briefing...
Ole, talking of goal scorers, Rashford got a cracker in the week. You’ve spoke before about him scoring more scruffy goals, but he scores goals like that. Has anything changes in terms of him being a wide player of a no.9? “Well I think since Anthony has come back, Marcus has flourished. He is probably happier facing goal, being direct, driving at people, taking players on rather than being a target man with his back to goal. But Marcus wants to master all the skills in the end. He’s only just turned 22 and I’m sure we’ll see him upfront as a nine, maybe as a two with Anthony, maybe now as a three like we did against Norwich, or wide like we did against Chelsea. There are different ways off playing with Marcus and it was important for him, and for me, that he stood up and took that penalty against Chelsea.” Just a word about Scott McTominay because a lot of fans have been full of praise for him and the way he has stepped up and become such a key player for you this season. He also looks a leader - Maguire was wearing the armband, but do you think McTominay could be a future captain? “He has been excellent and now him and Fred have a good relationship. They’re playing well together. They’ve done that last season - PSG, Arsenal - there were quite a few games where they played well together when we had some injuries. Now they’re working as a pair, but Scotty has been excellent. He’s a leader, he’s a Man United boy, he’s come through the ranks. You can tell he used to be a striker with the goal he scored against Norwich on the half-turn and he’s developing into very good midfielder.”
