McTominay reacts to London loss
See what Scott McTominay told MUTV after the Reds' 2-0 defeat at West Ham...
Q: Tough game, what’s the reaction from the dressing room? Yeah it was, it was a tough game. We’ve had a lot of chances in the game and when you go in 1-0 down at half-time after a fairly positive 25 minutes to start the game off. We know we all need to do more, on and off the ball. If you’re not doing the jobs on the pitch you need to be told and it’s as simple as that. It’s up to us now, with all the leaders in the group that we’ve got we need to bring everyone together and keep your heads. It’s not the time to back down and say ‘this is ok’. It’s not ok! We need to do more on and off and pitch. The manager has reiterated that, how it’s about the standards of this football club and they weren’t there today. Q: Whatever the manger said, it did seem to make a difference - you were on top more much of the second half… It’s the fine margins in a game. If you take your chances - it’s up to everybody, defenders and midfielders, obviously myself Nemanja and the attackers to do more. We all have to do more, we have to contribute more to the play going forward. We had chances going forward and in football you have to take them, If you don’t, you get punished. Q: It is tough when we’re missing so many players and then Marcus picks up an injury. I suppose there’s not much you can do much about that really? It’s no excuse. We have quality all over the squad and obviously some of the main players who play every week are injured, but so be it. It’s a chance for young players to come in and make their mark and in the future we have to look to them and hopefully they can get some more game time because we need them. It’s not a time to drop your head. Q: Obviously the margins are fine and at 1-0 we had some good chances. Juan had one saved and Harry went close. Did you feel it was still alive in that second half? One hundred per cent. It’s sickening when you come in and that’s the result. It’s so tough to take and it’s difficult for all our fans as well who were unbelievable all game. Unfortunately we didn’t send them back with three points. I feel like we were just unfortunate today. Q: Is it one of those where you’re just keen to get back out there? Obviously, we’ve got Rochdale in the cup and then Arsenal. After a situation like this are you just keen to get back out there again? Yeah. If you don’t want to play football after that you shouldn’t be at Man United and you shouldn’t playing week in, week out. This football club demands big characters and if it doesn’t the you don’t succeed. It’s as simple as that.
