Away shirt, 1972/73

Away kit, 1972/73

A rare example of a yellow away kit, United’s outfield players wore the colour for just two seasons at the beginning of the 1970s. The combination was a strange one, normally associated with Arsenal, and never worn as an outfield away kit before or since.

Made from aertex, the shirt would have been worn at either the beginning or end of the season and shows the early commitment of manufacturers to keeping players cool. The jersey also features the club crest, and this was the first season our crest appeared on the kit.
