Opting to wear our blue away strip in the 1968 European Cup Final, United’s potential kit clash with Benfica ensured that a change shirt, which could have been forgotten, went down in history. Manufactured by Umbro and sporting the City of Manchester Coat of Arms, the shirt had echoes of the 1948 FA Cup final winning kit.

Having made his debut in the first match following the Munich Air Disaster, Shay Brennan had become a lynchpin of Matt Busby’s rebuilt side.
