United Women's Lego Club building towards Old Trafford game

Manchester United Women are set to return to Old Trafford later this month, with the WSL season finale against Chelsea at the Theatre of Dreams now just over two weeks away.

Marc Skinner's squad have a league game away to Merseyside rivals Liverpool and the small matter of the Adobe Women’s FA Cup final against Tottenham to come in the meantime, so the players can be forgiven for not looking too far ahead to the upcoming M16 occasion.

Fans' anticipation for the clash on Saturday 18 May is continuing to build though, as supporters secure seats to the meeting with Emma Hayes’s title-chasing Chelsea side on the final weekend of the campaign.

You can still buy tickets for the Old Trafford game here.

United Women's Lego Club has built Old Trafford! Watch as the players take the completed set out on to the M16 turf...

Ahead of our M16 date, United Women’s Lego Club have been on the pitch at the Theatre of Dreams, to parade their completed model of the stadium, and look ahead to our game there on 18 May.

You can see what Leah Galton, Safia Middleton-Patel, Jess Simpson and Rachel Williams got up to in the video above, as they took their miniature version of Old Trafford inside the real thing.

The quartet have previously spoken about how building Lego is their way of bonding and relaxing away from the football pitch, and the craze is something that has become a regular part of their day-to-day routines at Carrington.

Speaking to us during the squad’s mid-season trip to Malta, the players explained the origins of their shared hobby, as they began the staggering 3,898-piece Old Trafford build.

Having now completed the set, a visit to M16 was apt, as they revisited the location where the team will finish its season this month, with a sixth appearance at the Theatre of Dreams.

Left-winger Galton has played in four of the team’s previous five fixtures at our historic home ground – scoring against Aston Villa there last season – and cannot wait to grace the hallowed turf on matchday once more.

“It makes you proud to walk out for your team and get ready to gear up for a big game and then usually you’ve got your family or your friends or both sat in the crowd,” she says, in our latest Lego Club video feature.

“You just want to go out and give it everything. I’m pretty sure we’ll do that in the last game of the season.”

A record home attendance for United Women, 43,615 supporters, watched November’s Manchester derby against City at Old Trafford and another big crowd can be expected for the Chelsea clash later this month.

Galton’s team-mate, and fellow Lego Club member, Williams relishes the added edge that playing in M16 offers, and is looking forward to seeing our fans turn out in big numbers again come the final day of the season.

“With the fire and the music, I feel like it’s a cup final,” Rachel explains. “The fans here are always brilliant. I always say it’s like your 12th man at times.

“They are loud and we love it, that’s why we stay out and give a little back when we can.”
