Ten Hag's team news for Burnley clash

Friday 26 April 2024 13:30

Erik ten Hag has issued an update on his plans for Manchester United's Premier League clash with Burnley at Old Trafford.

The Reds moved into sixth spot in the table with the midweek victory over Sheffield United, and will look to follow it up with another three points against the Clarets.

Speaking after the 4-2 triumph against the Blades, Ten Hag suggested only Mason Mount might return for Saturday's 15:00 BST kick-off, as the manager continues to contend with a lengthy injury list.

"It's the same squad but Mason Mount, he will return to the squad," he confirmed during his press conference on Friday to preview the game.

Marcus Rashford missed Wednesday's encounter, joining Jonny Evans, Willy Kambwala, Victor Lindelof, Tyrell Malacia, Lisandro Martinez, Luke Shaw, Raphael Varane and Anthony Martial on the sidelines.

Casemiro has been filling in at centre-back, alongside Harry Maguire, due to the lack of options in defence. Bruno Fernandes played with a bandaged hand, and scored twice, against the Blades, after suffering an injury in the penalty shootout win over Coventry City in the Emirates FA Cup semi-final at Wembley.

Sofyan Amrabat returned in midweek, and came on as a late substitute, with Under-18s striker Ethan Wheatley making his senior bow, and becoming our 250th Academy graduate to play in the first team in the process.

Ten Hag expressed his hope that there will be defensive reinforcements back at some stage next month, with striker Anthony Martial also likely to be available again.

"Yes, I think so," he replied, when asked specifically about Shaw, Martinez and Martial. "I think we are all going to see them [again] in this season.

"They returned, all three onto the pitch. Next week, they have to make a step into team training and we think they can be available for the last weeks [of the season]. They are progressing well."

BURNLEY'S TEAM NEWS

The Clarets are battling hard against relegation and have lost only one of their last seven fixtures.

Manager Vincent Kompany has revealed that striker Lyle Foster is fit, even though he came off during the convincing 4-1 victory at Sheffield United last weekend.

Goalkeeper Arijanet Muric is also fine, despite some concerns, and Luca Koleosho is close to returning from a knee injury.

However, Ameen Al-Dakhil, Jordan Beyer, Aaron Ramsey and Nathan Redmond are all definitely ruled out.
