Manchester United Under-21s were beaten 8-1 by Bolton Wanderers in their second EFL Trophy Group E contest of the season.

The hosts' took the lead after twenty minutes played as Josh Sheehan found both time and space to fire a low cross into the area, with Dan Nlundulu sweeping home the game's opener.

Sheehan himself made it two shortly after, before grabbing his second goal and Wanderers third with a curling effort from just outside of the penalty area.

Gethin Jones added a fourth just before the interval, after a cut-back from Aaron Morley allowed the Bolton skipper to further extend his side's tally.

Jones then turned provider just after the interval, setting up Nlundulu to make it 5-0 as he grabbed his second goal of the evening.

Ian Evatt's side extended their advantage through Jon Dadi Bodvarsson with just over an hour played, before Omari Forson grabbed a goal back for United after a give-and-go with Ethan Williams.

Substitutes Nelson Khumbeni and Luke Matheson both got in on the act inside the final fifteen minutes, completing the scoring for the home side.
