Under-21s: United v Everton

Saturday 04 November 2023 14:00

Manchester United Under-21s emerged victorious on Saturday, sealing a 3-1 win over Everton in a Premier League 2 bout at Leigh Sports Village.

Reds forward Joe Hugill opened the scoring, when he received a cutback from Sam Murray and slotted a finish past Everton goalkeeper Fraser Barnsley.

United captain Shola Shoretire then doubled our haul on the 30-minute mark. He won a free-kick on the edge of the box and stepped up to squeeze a shot under the jumping Toffees wall and into the bottom-left corner.

The ball fell to Isak Hansen-Aaroen just before the break following a corner, but the young Norwegian curled a shot just over the bar.

Everton managed to put a dent in our lead early in the second half. Following a counter-attack by the visitors, Blues winger Sean McAllister picked up the ball on the right wing and floated a wayward cross that found its way into the back of Elyh Harrison’s net.

In the 79th minute, Hugill stepped up once again to reinstate our two-goal lead. Our no.9 received the ball at his feet just outside the six-yard box from winger Mateo Mejia and, with two touches, he netted the final goal of a productive afternoon for Travis Binnion's team.
