Loan Watch: Levitt shines in Scotland

A handful of Manchester United loanees were in action in several competitions over the weekend, with Dylan Levitt producing a Man of the Match display for Dundee United as the Tangerines defeated St Mirren 2-1, away from home in the Scottish Premier League.

Levitt was industrious throughout the afternoon and his long-range strike hauled his side level in the second half, after Jay Henderson had opened the scoring for the home team within just three minutes.

When St Mirren goalkeeper Jak Alnwick was sent for a dangerous challenge late on, it set up a tense finale, and, in the 96th minute, Marc McNulty fired home to earn the three points for the away side.

Wales international Levitt was awarded Man of the Match for his performance, as United leapfrogged Hibernian and Livingston into the top four.

Elsewhere, James Garner put in another impressive display for Nottingham Forest, despite the Championship side being narrowly defeated 1-0 by Liverpool in the quarter-finals of the Emirates FA Cup.

Garners incisive pass to Ryan Yates, late in the game, led to a big decision for referee Craig Pawson, when Liverpool goalkeeper Alisson appeared to bring down the Forest midfielder, but Pawson did not point to the spot and VAR ruled that there was not enough contact to warrant a penalty.

The hosts pushed the Merseyside club for most of the game, but Dioga Jota struck decisively to see the Premier League side through to a semi-final meeting with Manchester City.

Anthony Martial started for Sevilla in the Spanish club’s 0-0 home draw against Real Sociedad on Sunday.

Sevilla had few chances in the match, but the Frenchman came close to a goal, almost getting on the end Jesus Navas’s dangerous cross.

Great defending from the Real Sociedad defence ensured the delivery was cut out before Martial could apply the finishing touch.

Another attacking loanee, Tahith Chong, played the full 90 minutes for Birmingham City, as the Midlanders gained a point with a 0-0 draw at Swansea City.

Chong looked to be set for a vital assist in the first half when he broke in behind and laid the ball off for Juninho Bacuna, but the Blues midfielder could not find the target.

The United winger then had a chance of his own, but fired over from close range.

Finally, Ethan Galbraith featured in Doncaster Rovers’ 0-0 draw away to fellow League One strugglers Fleetwood Town, which leaves Doncaster three points adrift of safety.
