Skinner sees FA Cup defeat as fuel for the future

Sunday 14 May 2023 18:20

Marc Skinner insists that Manchester United’s narrow defeat to Chelsea in the Women’s Vitality FA Cup final will only ‘fuel’ his side going forward.

Sam Kerr’s sole strike was once again the difference between the two sides, but Skinner was enthused nonetheless by what he saw from his players in our very first major final.

“I can promise you this, as I sit here, this fuels us,” he told the media in his post-match press conference.

“This is an absolute fuel for us.”

Skinner: We will be back

Marc Skinner isn't too disheartened by United Women's FA Cup final loss to Chelsea...

He followed up with an impassioned message to United fans, who were in full voice in the capital, saying: “To any Manchester United fan listening, I can promise you now [that] we will give everything to keep getting you back into finals and in the Champions League.

“We know how special our club is and how we need to be synonymous with success.

“But along the way, you get a few bumps, and today was one of them.”
Skinner insists that he and his players are ‘not going anywhere,’ on the back of our first appearance at Wembley.

“We will be back,” he added. “I’m not going to stop and this team is not going to stop.

“Anybody that thinks we’re going away, we’re not.
