Mary
Biography
Officially the best women’s goalkeeper in the world for 2022, Mary has flourished at club and international level since joining United from Wolfsburg in 2019.
The Nottingham-born shot-stopper made her senior debut in 2010 and spent a season at the two-time UEFA Women’s Champions League winners in Germany, after spells at Doncaster Rovers Belles, Reading, Bristol City and Birmingham City in the FA Women’s Super League. After returning to English football ahead of the 2019/20 season, she spoke of her desire to challenge for trophies and establish the Reds as one of the top women's teams in Europe. Earps, who made her senior England debut in 2017, was part of Phil Neville's Lionesses squad that finished fourth at the 2019 FIFA Women’s World Cup in France. She played in every one of United's 58 WSL games across her first three seasons with the club, keeping 25 clean sheets in the process. In February 2021, Mary signed a new contract until the summer of 2023, with an option for an additional year. In the summer of 2022, our no.27 played an integral part in England's success at the European Championships, keeping four clean sheets in six appearances at the tournament, and was named in UEFA's official Team of the Tournament. Mary's standout contributions continued when she arrived back in Manchester for the 2022/23 campaign. The goalkeeper registered her 50th WSL clean sheet following our 1-0 win at Reading in January 2023, becoming the first-ever player to reach the milestone. Earps was selected by the supporters as United Women's inaugural Player of the Month following her impressive start to the calendar year, before being recognised for her efforts in the previous 12 months and beyond, winning The Best Women's Goalkeeper award at the prestigious The Best FIFA Football Awards ceremony in Paris.
