United v Watford: The stats you need to know
As Manchester United prepare to face Watford this afternoon at Old Trafford, we have all the facts and figures you need ahead of the game.
The Reds have played Watford on 31 previous occasions and have won 21, drawn five and lost five. Earlier this season, United won 2-1 at Vicarage Road thanks to goals from Romelu Lukaku and Chris Smalling.
We have won 10 of 11 Premier League games between the two and have lost just once. Therefore, a home victory on Saturday means we will have completed the double over Watford in five of the six seasons we have met.
United have never lost a home league game to Watford in 11 previous clashes - winning nine and drawing two. In fact, the Reds have lost just one of 13 meetings in all competitions at Old Trafford.
The only man to net a Premier League goal for Watford at Old Trafford was Richard Johnson. The Australian pulled one back for the visitors in October 1999, with United already four goals ahead.
The Hornets have lost seven of the eight games they have played against current top-six opposition in the league this season, with their only win coming against Tottenham Hotspur in August.
Watford have lost 13 consecutive away games against top-six sides in the Premier League. Their last victory on the road against such a side came at the Emirates in January 2017.
The Hornets have won just once in their last five Premier League away games and lost the last two on the road to Liverpool (5-0) and Manchester City (3-1) respectively.
Saturday’s game will be Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s 20th match in charge of United and, of course, his first since being appointed as permanent manager earlier this week.
In Ole’s previous six home league games in charge, United have won four and drawn two. The Reds have also scored at least two goals in five of those encounters.
The race for United’s top goal scorer in the Premier League is expected to last until the end of the season. Currently Romelu Lukaku (12), Paul Pogba (11), Marcus Rashford (9) and Anthony Martial (9) are all in the running.
