Callum Whelan puts pen to paper.

Whelan commits future to United

Monday 09 July 2018 16:58

Manchester United midfielder Callum Whelan has signed a new contract.

The Barnsley-born Red turns 20 in September and he will be hoping to impress Under-23s coach Ricky Sbragia at the training camp in Austria this week.

He made nine appearances in total last season, five as starter, and must be targeting more action in 2018/19.

It's thirsty work in the Manchester sun for Callum Whelan.

Whelan is one of United's many homegrown talents, and he has some unique trophy-winning experience to his name. In January 2017, he went in goal in the Sparkasse & VGH International Cup, due to an injury to Ilias Moutha-Sebtaoui, and was the star of the shoot-out as the Reds beat Hannover in the final.

More at home in his usual midfield role, he is a neat passer and very calm in possession.
