Go behind the scenes of United Legends game

Saturday 28 May 2022 11:00

You can now go behind the scenes at Old Trafford with unrivalled footage from last weekend’s Legends of the North match via the latest episode of Access All Areas.

Our camera crew mingled with former Manchester United players while filming the video, which takes you into the dressing room, down the tunnel, onto the pitch and more as it provides an extraordinary view of a special day at the Theatre of Dreams.

Over £1.3million was raised for the Manchester United Foundation as our Legends team faced their Liverpool counterparts in front of 48,777 fans.

And now you have the opportunity to look back on a brilliant afternoon with this exclusive unseen film, which you can see below.

Still not sure if you should watch it? Check out these five unmissable things that you need to see from the edit…

REUNIONS IN THE DRESSING ROOM

It was great to see United heroes from different eras come together to raise money for the Foundation last weekend. It is likely that the majority of the former Reds had not seen each other for a while, and therefore it was great that our cameras could follow them into the stadium and down to the dressing room to reunite with their colleagues. Check out Gary Neville’s meeting with Bryan Robson (04:32) and Patrice Evra’s entrance (06:03) when the Frenchman’s attire is the first topic on the agenda.
EVRA’S CONFUSION

Just before making his way into the changing area, Patrice needed the assistance of our camera operator to ensure he would be heading to the right place. Since our former full-back’s departure in 2014, Old Trafford’s dressing rooms have undergone several renovations, with the away team now being housed on the opposite side of the tunnel area instead of in the same corridor. This caught Evra out on his way into the stadium, as he originally walked past the door for the ‘new’ home dressing room, mistaking it for the old doorway for the visitors, before some helpful guidance comes from behind the camera.

BIRTHDAY BOY PRANKED

Quinton Fortune celebrated his 45th birthday with a return to Old Trafford, and as you can see in the video, he appears to be in good spirits throughout his special day - other than during his post-match ice bath! And there’s no doubt he was smiling even when his team-mates for the day played a trick on him, as they went out to warm up. Quinton was asked to lead out the team for the pre-match preparations, but he obviously didn’t know what was to come next…

United Legends react to memorable day

Three former Reds shared their thoughts after a great occasion at Old Trafford.

UP CLOSE WITH CARRAGHER

The latest episode of Access All Areas also features our visitors Liverpool, including captain-for-the-day Jamie Carragher. It has been some time since Jamie, and his fellow ex-pros on both sides, hung up their boots so getting them back and dusting off the cobwebs in the warm-ups may have been more difficult than first thought. See what Carragher had to say about that when he spotted our camera alongside him on the pitch at 14 minutes and 31 seconds in.

JOHNSEN’S CLOSE CALL

Unfortunately, Bryan Robson's side weren’t able to cap off an incredible day with the result to match, as Liverpool ran out 3-1 winners. With the contest poised at 2-1 in the second half as our former players chased another equaliser, Ronny Johnsen dribbled his way forward from the back before unleashing a powerful drive that just went over the crossbar. You can see via the angle in the video how close it was to what would have been a quite sensational goal from the defender who scored nine times in his 150 career appearances for United. Luis Garcia would of course go on to complete the scoring for the Merseyside club late on, but it’s certainly still all to play for in the second leg at Anfield in September.
