Russo: We're looking forward to seeing our travelling support again

Saturday 24 September 2022 07:00

Manchester United Women’s forward Alessia Russo says the Reds are looking forward to seeing our travelling away support for the first time in the competitive season this weekend.

Marc Skinner’s Reds are set to make the trip down to West Ham for our first away game of the new WSL campaign on Sunday (15:00 BST).

The game will come just over a week on from a record-breaking Leigh Sports Village crowd watching the side open up the campaign with a convincing victory over Reading.

And Russo knows that our fans will bring the noise and backing away from home too this term, as they are well known to do.

Russo: We're fully locked in on West Ham

Continuing to build momentum is this weekend's aim for United Women, says forward Alessia Russo...

“I almost think they’re louder on away days than they are at home, and that’s a task!" she said. "[I'm] So excited [to see them at West Ham], the fans are a huge part of this club.

“To have them home and away, travelling up and down the country, we really do appreciate it.

“So, we’re looking forward to going out there and hearing them loud on Sunday.”
While Russo and the Reds are looking forward to seeing our supporters, the aim will no doubt be to send them home happy again with another three points on the board.

Alessia says United enjoyed last weekend’s campaign-opening triumph in the immediate aftermath, but the focus this week has been on constructing a performance of a similar ilk on Sunday.

“Training has been really good, it was a great performance on Saturday but it’s behind us now and we’re fully locked in on West Ham,” Russo insisted.

“That’s what this week has been geared towards. We’ve been working hard, back to it and there’s lots of things we’re trying to work on. We’re looking forward to it.”

The forward is under no illusions about the task ahead of the Reds in visiting the Hammers however, a side that are also in good spirits having won their opener last weekend.

“West Ham is always a tough place to go, they pose threats all over the pitch.

“They’re a strong side and I know we’ve struggled there in the past, so we’re excited to go there off the back of a good week of training and continue this momentum.”
