Anthony Martial has received a ton of compliments from Manchester United fans on social media following our 2-0 win over Manchester City.

Our no. 9 was crucial in our triumph in the 185th Manchester derby, winning a penalty after just 34 seconds which Bruno Fernandes converted to put United ahead early on.

Martial, who passed a late fitness test in the warm-up on Sunday, worked his socks off, maintaining the Reds' high press and causing Pep Guardiola’s defence plenty of trouble.

The positive start, with Martial drawing a foul from opposite number Gabriel Jesus, set the standard for what was a third consecutive win at the home of our neighbours.

Solskjaer's verdict on a fantastic derby win

In our interview, Ole explains why Anthony Martial was his star man and salutes Luke Shaw's goalscoring performance...

United boss Ole Gunnar Solskjaer was particularly enthuasiastic about the 25-year-old’s performance after the derby win, declaring him United's standout performer.

"Fantastic," he told MUTV when summarising Martial’s game.

"The start, of course, that sets the tone of the game: that we already after a minute get a penalty and a goal after being positive. Anthony gets the ball, looks forward, drives inside the box. Be positive, that’s what we want for our players. I was delighted for everyone, especially for Anthony who’s had a hard time, I thought he was Man of the Match."

The Norwegian manager was not the only one who thought Martial caught the eye at the Etihad Stadium. In a post on our Official Facebook page, the France international is getting well-deserved recognition for his contribution to the Reds' 2-0 win...

Dillan Oliphant: “Happy for this dude. Top game. So proud of you Tony.”

John Juma: “He was my man of the match in that game yesterday, held the ball nicely, pressed them high, defended so well, he was generally good on the ball... Hope this performance is one of many good ones to come.”

Shaffei Rahiman Abdul: “This is the kind of performance we expect from Tony. Love you and keep fighting for the badge...”

Chidiebube Okeoma: “Martial was absolutely phenomenal yesterday. I hope he improves on this form.”

Kendrick Ümaar: “Martial was very strong against [John] Stones and Ruben Dias...big up for that performance.”

Atea Reddevil: “Don’t underestimate the power of Martial.”

Christine Marshall: “Well played Martial, Man of the Match.”
