Martial shines on Sevilla home debut

Saturday 12 February 2022 12:23

Manchester United forward Anthony Martial registered his first assist for his loan club as Sevilla defeated Elche 2-0 in La Liga on Friday evening.

The France international joined the Spanish side in a temporary switch last month and crossed superbly for Rafa Mir to head home a second goal on 75 minutes.

With Sevilla still in the hunt for their first league title since 1946, Julen Lopetegui's men sit just 3 points behind leaders Real Madrid, with 14 games left to play.

Anthony Martial is to spend the remainder of the 2021/22 season in Spain.

Having made his debut in red and white against Osasuna last weekend, the 26-year-old played 90 minutes on his inaugural home appearance, with Sevilla extending their unbeaten run in the league to nine games.

Keen to make an impact during his stay in southern Spain, Martial has European football to come too, with Lopetegui's side also still involved in the knockout stages of this season's Europa League.

With La Liga leaders Real yet to play this weekend, a victory against Villarreal could see Carlo Ancelotti's side go six points clear, once they have their game in hand completed.

Our no.22 had featured 11 times for the Reds in 2021/22 before moving to Andalusia in January, with his sole goal this season coming back in October in our 1-1 draw with Everton.
