What is Schweinsteiger’s best United memory?
Bastian Schweinsteiger is well remembered by Manchester United supporters for his time at the club between 2015 and 2017.
The German arrived at Old Trafford with much pedigree, having emerged through the ranks at Bayern Munich, spending 13 years in the first team, and winning the 2014 World cup with his nation.
Bastian played for the United 35 times during his two-year spell at the club, scoring twice, and our fans took the midfielder to their hearts, still holding him in high regard.
In a recent interview with MUTV’s Mark Sullivan, Schweinsteiger revealed his most memorable moment as a United player, stating he will "never forget" it.
Schweinsteiger: I really enjoyed it at United
Bastian Schweinsteiger reflects on his United career and discusses Anthony Martial and Jadon Sancho...
“Obviously, winning the FA Cup and also in [my] first season, the first half until I had my injury, everything went really well,” he said.
“In the second season, I was not really playing in the first team in the first months, but then I got my chance to come back to the team and, actually, I got subbed in against West Ham.
“The reception I got from the Manchester United supporters was very special for me and I will never forget that moment.”
Such is the support he had from our fans, Bastian says that coming back to Old Trafford is something which is on his 'bucket list'.
“Well, I didn’t really make it yet,” said the German, when asked when he will next be coming to the iconic stadium.
“Obviously, we had the pandemic [so it] was not so easy, but I definitely have it on my bucket list to visit Old Trafford and you never know, maybe Bayern Munich is playing against United one day so, definitely then, I’ll pop by.”
He may not have racked up as many appearances as other United favourites, but there is no disputing the connection between Schweinsteiger and our supporters. We look forward to having you back at Old Trafford, Bastian!
