Amad's dream debut earns Bruno's praise

Bruno Fernandes applauded Amad after the Manchester United winger scored on his debut for new loan club Rangers on Saturday.

The Ivorian signed for the Scottish Premiership side earlier in the week and was thrown immediately into the starting line-up by Rangers boss Giovanni van Bronckhurst.

It took little time for Amad to make an impact, tapping home a Joe Aribo cross at the far post within five minutes.

By the time he was subbed off in the 66th minute, Amad had delighted the Rangers support by constantly taking on, and beating, the opposition full-back in an excellent first game.

His first goal came with his first shot for the league leaders, replicating the feat he achieved with United when scoring against AC Milan in last year’s UEFA Europa League round of 16.

It signals the start of an exciting spell in Scotland for the 20-year-old, who joined the Reds from Serie A side Atalanta in January 2021 after his signing was announced in the previous October.

If more goals follow, fans of Scottish football will have to get used to hearing Rangers fans’ new song for our talented winger, which goes like this, to the tune of ABBA’s Voulez-Vouz:

"Diallo, aha. Running down the wing, aha. Hear the Rangers sing, aha. We're gonna win the league, aha."

Post-match, Amad said, on social media: “Happy with the debut, now we are concentrating for Wednesday. A great game is waiting for us.”

Meanwhile, his United team-mates reacted, too. Bruno Fernandes shared clips of Amad’s best moments on Instagram, tagging his story with the words ‘fly boy’, in Portuguese.

Like many Reds, Marcus Rashford was following along as Amad made his debut, and reacted in the same way, too.

Jesse Lingard commented, on Instagram, "Vamos ❤️🔥 enjoy bro" while Anthony Elanga said "Mon gars sursss🔥🔥🔥" ("My guy sure").

Focus will quickly turn to the next game for Amad and his new side. Van Bronckhurst's team are top of the Premiership but old rivals Celtic are just two points behind with the two clubs meeting on Wednesday.

UK-based fans who want to check on Amad's progress can watch that game live on Sky Sports. Kick-off is at 19:45 GMT.
