Bruno shines as Portugal see off Slovakia

Manchester United captain Bruno Fernandes was in inspired form on Friday evening, as he registered two vital assists in Portugal's 3-2 win over Slovakia in Euro 2024 qualfying.

Our no.8 first tee'd up Goncalo Ramos with a perfectly-weighted pass on 18 minutes, with former Red Cristiano Ronaldo doubling Selecao's advantage from the penalty spot just before the half-hour mark.

Slovakia then grabbed a goal back through David Hancko with twenty minutes to play, before our Portuguese playmaker turned provider once more, with his low cross tapped home by Ronaldo for his second of the evening.

Napoli's Stanislav Lobotka did grab another for Slovakia to make it 3-2 in Porto, but it was Roberto Martinez's side who booked their spot at next summer's tournament in Germany with victory.

Fellow United team-mate Diogo Dalot also played the full 90 minutes in Porto, as Portugal extended their lead at the top of Group J to eight points over second-placed Slovakia in the process.

Bruno, who marked his 59th cap for his country in fine form, next face-off against Bosnia and Herzegovina on Monday in Zenica.

Elsewhere around Europe, England were also in action, as they faced Australia in an international friendly at Wembley Stadium, emerging as 1-0 victors.

Aston Villa's Ollie Watkins netted the only goal of the game, as he tapped home Jack Grealish's cross from close range after 57 minutes played.
