Bruno wins Man of the Match award

Bruno Fernandes was voted by Manchester United fans as our Man of the Match for his performance in the triumphant trip to Stamford Bridge.

The Reds ran out 1-0 winners in west London after Matheus Cunha’s well-controlled finish late in the first half, teed up wonderfully by Fernandes.

That was the skipper’s 18th assist in top-flight action this term as he closes in on the all-time Premier League record for the metric, jointly held by Thierry Henry and Kevin De Bruyne, who both registered 20 for a single campaign.

Bruno expresses how crucial he feels the Reds' win at Chelsea is in the battle for UEFA Champions League qualification.

Among supporters having their say via our poll in the official United App and on ManUtd.com, Bruno was the standout pick for the Man of the Match award, earning 54 per cent of the vote.

After the game, Fernandes said: "I say every time I want to do better than the season before.

“I want to improve my game overall. I need to improve every week because I want to become a better player and end my career as best as possible."

Of course, our no.8, who also won the Premier League’s equivalent award for the game, was not the only man worthy of recognition in a battling team display.

Alongside him in midfield, Kobbie Mainoo – back in the side after missing Monday night’s clash with Leeds – played a pivotal role in the engine room.

Head coach Michael Carrick said it was Mainoo’s best display during his time as boss, and fans’ voting provided a similar sentiment, with 20 per cent of those taking part in our poll opting for Mainoo as their standout man.

Mainoo completed 26 passes in the opposition half and won three of six duels as United earned a first win away to Chelsea in six years.

Ayden Heaven was also thrust back into the XI with Harry Maguire and Lisandro Martinez suspended and Leny Yoro out through injury.

The youngster was in inspired form to help the Reds keep a clean sheet, making four blocks and three clearances. His contribution was again recognised by fans, with 10 per cent of the vote, while goalscorer Cunha was just behind with nine per cent.

Congratulations to Bruno on yet another assist and Man of the Match award!
