Bruno only needed 45 minutes to break own record

The Reds were trailing to a Tomas Soucek goal at half-time and Ole Gunnar Solskjaer made two changes for the start of the second half, introducing our Portuguese magnifico and Marcus Rashford.

As you would expect by now, Fernandes had a positive impact on our play and provided the assist from which Paul Pogba equalised, with a stunning long-range finish after 65 minutes. 

Mason Greenwood put us in front with a technically brilliant strike just moments later, before Rashford sealed the victory by latching onto a lovely Juan Mata pass to beat the goalkeeper with ease.

In total, Bruno created eight chances from open play and Premier League records, for this season, show that number is the most by any player in an individual game.

The previous mark was registered as six chances from open play: it was shared between Fernandes (v Newcastle United), Chelsea’s Reece James (v West Bromwich Albion) and Manchester City duo Kevin De Bruyne (v Wolverhampton Wanderers) and Riyad Mahrez (v Burnley). 

Of course, Bruno’s record is made even more impressive by the fact our talismanic no.18 was only on the pitch for 45 minutes – but when he’s in this mood, there is clearly no stopping him.

Looking at the Premier League season as a whole, data expert Statman Dave pointed out on Sunday that Fernandes has now created 35 chances and that’s seven more than his closest rival De Bruyne. 

The Manchester City midfielder is currently level with our Portugal international in terms of top-flight assists (11), when studying their contributions since Bruno joined United from Sporting Lisbon in January. 

Fernandes was named on the bench at the weekend in an effort to rest his legs, with an important Champions League match against RB Leipzig coming up in Germany on Tuesday night. 

The inspirational 26-year-old is expected to return to the starting XI at Red Bull Arena, where United must avoid defeat in order to reach the competition’s knockout stages.
