Who was our Man of the Match against Forest?

Manchester United are going to Wembley, after defeating Nottingham Forest 2-0 in the second leg of the Carabao Cup semi-final at Old Trafford.

Once again, Erik ten Hag’s substitutions made the difference, with Anthony Martial and Marcus Rashford – both 63rd-minute introductions – combining for the opening goal just 10 minutes after joining the fray.

Fred added a second just minutes later, sealing the win on the night and putting United’s place in the final beyond any doubt with an aggregate score of 5-0.

It was a professional performance from the Reds, but which of our players was the Man of the Match?

Bruno Fernandes emerged at the top of our fan poll, attracting 44 per cent of the vote.

The Portuguese maestro was seemingly everywhere, whether that be starting attacks from deep, making lung-busting runs in behind, or putting the ball on a sixpence for his team-mates.

Bruno was arguably our biggest creative spark in the first half, in which he played a series of dangerous passes – including a sublime one with the outside of his foot – but the Reds couldn’t find a breakthrough.

And in the second half, after Martial had put United ahead and Fernandes had moved to the right wing, our no.8 played another delightful outside-of-the-foot pass to Rashford at the back post which the forward laid on for Fred to add a second goal.

The next closest to the midfielder was Casemiro, who earned 18 per cent of the vote. The Brazilian was as influential as we’ve come to expect, contributing well in both defence and attack.

He, alongside Bruno, controlled the midfield, characteristically breaking up play and also beginning attacks from deep.

Casemiro also had a couple of headed efforts which on another day would have seen the net ripple, but he was thwarted by Wayne Hennessey.

Fred and Rashford, who combined for the second of our goals, had nine per cent each after impressive performances, but Fernandes was the standout Red on the evening.

Congratulations, Bruno!
