What are fans saying about Matic's Burnley display?

Paul Pogba was named Man of the Match after United's 1-0 win over Burnley, but there was also oodles of praise across social media for his midfield partner, Nemanja Matic.

The Serbian has been excellent on his recent starts for Ole Gunnar Solskjaer, and arguably saved his best for the trip to Turf Moor, where stats deemed him the game's second-most influential player (behind goalscorer Pogba).

At 32 years old, Matic is one of the most experienced figures in a youthful first-team squad, and every ounce of his competitive nous was required against Sean Dyche's spirited, battle-hardened Burnley.

Marcus Rashford and Pogba combined for the winner, but Matic's technical ability, physical strength and all-seeing intelligence were key in helping the Reds gain control of the match, which they largely did after a challenging opening 15 minutes.

A post on the club's official Facebook page asked supporters what they made of our no.31's performance and received hundreds of comments in reply, confirming just what an important player Matic remains to this United side...

The midfielder reflects on the win over Burnley, Pogba's performance and moving top of the table...

Gani Muhammed Ajowa: “A great asset that bridges the defence and midfield perfectly.”

Ivaylo Krastev: “I think he was key. Him dropping back and helping with passing at the back as well as releasing AWB and Luke Shaw to go forward was key for the three points. Him, Bailly and Pogba were top performers for me. And good from Ole and the management to see the contribution he can have. His height was also a key factor.”

Mo Hope: “Great. I don't think he is replaceable. So calm with the ball. Passing is of another class.”

Ekaette Nelson: “Bailly, Pogba and mathematic Matic were extraordinarily fabulous.”
Steven Clark: “He was brilliant, he'd controlled the middle of the park well, and was fantastic driving forward.”

Levi Sabala: “Impressive. You don't have to run everywhere like a headless chicken. Use your brains, position yourself well on the field to adapt with pacy players, accurate passes, protect the defence – those are the winning points of this guy.”

Adedokun Adedamola: “Great asset to the team. I love it when he's on the ball, he cools down the tempo as though nothing was attacking us... Great personality.”

Sylvester Massaquoi: “Matic, for me, was man of the match. He oozed calm and displayed so much experience.”

Geoffrey Jeffrey Ng'andwe Chikwale: “When we play against teams that hold and drop deep Matic is the main man! When we play against attacking teams Fred and Scott are the people to use! All in all he was sensational.”

Leighton Mondrë Frieslaar: “He was solid in ball recovery, released the ball quick, textbook defending. He was also good in aerial duels and played some lovely through balls.”
