Casemiro answers your questions
EXCLUSIVE | Part one of our unmissable Q&A with the brilliant Casemiro...
Case, we’ve had questions from every area of the globe for you from supporters, but the most common message we’ve had is just a statement: one more year! I think you know that was coming. How does it feel when you hear the fans chanting that to you at Old Trafford?
"Honestly, there is no explanation. All I can do is be grateful, because I am really enjoying myself a lot. Not just me, but all my family. It is an honour for us to listen to the fans’ love and affection. Lots of people think it is just the last few months since the announcement, but I have to be thankful since the very first day that I arrived here the fans have been amazing with me and my family. So I am so grateful to the fans, and the United fans, I am going to remember for the rest of my life."
We’ll go into the questions now – Kevin (United Kingdom): You look like you’re having the best time at the moment, jumping all over Michael Carrick and the lads, you look so proud. Can you describe what it feels like to give fans like me, who have your name printed on shirts, the emotion you have with the fans?
"Well, honestly I feel so happy, especially for the affection from the fans, and the respect they have for me. So, it's just gratitude for this love, it is so exciting. I am hoping not to cry on my last day as it is such a beautiful experience, my wife already cried the other day when the fans were asking for one more year. So, I just want to enjoy it, enjoy all the moments and I will be a United fan for the rest of my life."
Abdul (United States): What will be the most memorable thing from your United career?
"What stands out most for all players are titles. For me, it is important to win all those important games because it is all about winning titles. So, the two titles I won stick with me, we have also been in three other finals. But the two titles I won are the most important memories as they are for all the careers of players, and for the club."
Joel (United Kingdom): Have you got a favourite assist, presuming that your favourite goal was against Newcastle in the Carabao Cup final?
"I don’t know if it is my favourite, but one I like is one I did this year for [Matheus] Cunha [against Brighton] because he is a player that I have a lot of affection for, and he wanted to open his scoring account and I was the first to give him an assist. I am sure he will always remember it, as he is a player that is going to be so important for Manchester United and I was able to give him his first assist."
We’ve had a lot of questions about your celebrations, one of them was from Steven who enjoyed your celebrations against Aston Villa, and Phil says his daughter is copying your six-seven one all the time now. Can you talk us through the meaning of those celebrations…
"Honestly, all my celebrations are thought of and decided by my son. He is football-mad and United-mad, he loves Manchester. Every day when I leave the house I ask him: ‘What celebration do I have to do?’ So, the six-seven came from him. Also, this one [whilst he does the motion with his hands towards his nose] is to show that I can smell the goal."
Owethu (Eswatini): What is the secret to staying calm under pressure?
"The work day-to-day. The work you do every day will always pay off. So, when you work every day, it is true football is played by 11, but there are 20 in the squad, so it doesn’t just depend on you. But when you do your work, in the end it will always pay off."
Kiprop (Ireland): Which attribute when you reflect on each part of your game – technical, mental and physical – would you say you have maintained from your early days as a professional?
"The question is [about what I have] maintained so I would say the mental side, the focus. What sums me up is focus. To be focused every day, I have been this way ever since I was a kid. Always focused on the objective. Of course, you improve the technical side, you improve physically with the work every day, the technical side you already have but you still improve. However, the mental side has always been what I have maintained from being a child."
Casemiro opens up on United fans' chant
In a clip from our exclusive Q&A, Casemiro reveals just how attached he has become to the Reds...
Akshat (India): Many fans are curious about your intense training routines. What is one specific thing you focus on in the gym that helps your on-pitch performance?
"I like to be in the gym every day. I don’t like to do too much, but I am one of those that like to do a little bit every single day so that you can be on another level. So, I just try to enjoy it on the pitch. But the thing I do every day is spend 20-30 relaxed minutes in the gym as part of my routine."
Sello Patrick (South Africa): What is your opinion on Kobbie’s future as a midfielder, since he’s been your partner in recent games?
"Kobbie is the present and the future. I think that he is one of the best eights and can be for that for the next 12 years. He is a player I really like, he always wants the ball. It is true that football can’t change your mentality, but Kobbie demonstrated that he hasn’t changed his focus once. He has to continue focusing like he is now and continue playing the important role he is now. But what a player he is, he is a great player. He has demonstrated this, in the Euros final with England, he has demonstrated it in finals, he scored in the FA Cup final. He is the present and the future."
