United Women's Birmingham game is postponed

Manchester United Women head coach Casey Stoney has posted a personal message on Instagram after Sunday's away match against Birmingham City in the Women's Super League was postponed.

The Reds were due to face the Midlands club at their Solihull ground for the second time in five days but heavy rain, since the sides met in the Continental League Cup on Wednesday night, has led to the pitch becoming waterlogged and deemed unplayable.

The league meeting was due to be the final fixture of a successful calendar year for United Women, in which promotion to the WSL was achieved in style by winning the second-tier title in the team's inaugural campaign.
Casey said: "I'm disappointed not to end the year with a game but I’d like to thank all my players and staff for their incredible efforts this year.

“It’s been quite a year and we can’t forget how far we have come in such a short space of time!

"I’m grateful and privileged to work with each and everyone of them."

The next fixture for United Women is scheduled for Sunday 5 January 2020, when Bristol City will visit Leigh Sports Village for a midday meeting in the WSL.
